Safely reach the views from the highest peaks

The trails to the high mountains always reward you with incredible views. Discover the charms of the Julian Alps with the highest Slovenian peaks, the grandeur and beauty of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and enjoy the idyllic beauty of the Karavanke Mountains. However, these trails, especially in the Julian Alps and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, are often demanding and usually require more energy and time, so they are only suitable for mountaineers who have a good level of physical fitness and the right equipment, which they must know how to use. If you are unfamiliar with these trails, it is recommended that you are accompanied by a mountain guide.

The Kamnik and Savinja Alps

The Kamnik and Savinja Alps are very popular among mountaineers. The highest peaks exceed 2500 m. They are reached by well-marked hiking trails, some of which are very challenging, so be careful which trails you choose or leave the decision to mountain guides. The Velika Planina mountain pasture is considered to be one of the most beautiful Slovenian mountain pastures. In the middle of the mountainous landscape, there are two of the most beautiful valleys in Slovenia – the Logar Valley, with the Rinka Waterfall, and the Kamniška Bistrica Valley. A hike to the glacier under Mt. Skuta is a special experience, and you can also visit a popular panoramic viewpoint on the summit of Mt. Storžič.

From the kitchens of Slovenian mountain cabins

There are more than ten thousand km of marked mountain trails threaded throughout the dynamic landscape of Slovenia, and more than 150 mountain huts can be found along them. On weekends in particular, one can detect the aromas of typical Slovenian stews drifting from their kitchens. Many places offer locally typical delicacies. You might be offered žganci (mush) with sour milk if you visit mountain pastures where shepherds live.
