Since the Middle Ages, the historic Golden Trail has connected Bohemia with the Danube. It was named after the wealth it brought – after salt, the white gold, which then was rare in Bohemia and had to be imported from Bavaria. The system of routes had three main branches. From Passau they led to Prachatice, to Vimpersk and to Kašperské hory. And today, you still can follow these historic trails and get acquainted with the unique nature and unique sights of the "Green Roof of Europe" – the Šumava Mountains and the adjacent Bavarian Forest. If you are looking for the right place for your active holiday, the Golden Trail is the ideal choice!

Take a walk through the romantic valley of the River Vydra, one of the most beautiful places in Šumava. What starts as a calm stream, later transforms into a roaring canyon with many huge granite rocks, and thus also with rapids and waterfalls. The River Vydra (Otter) got its name from the aquatic animal of the same name which loves clear water. Set out from Antýgl and head along the nature trail to the Čeněk Sawmill, a technical monument. You will see a wild rocky gulley with balancing rocks, giant’s cauldrons and stone field. The undemanding terrain is also suitable for walking with prams and for wheelchair users.

The highest Czech mountain rises up from the long ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains like a pointed three-sided needle. Set out to conquer the queen of Czech mountains and one of the symbols of the Czech Republic. Your reward for conquering its 1,602 metre peak will be a wonderful view of the Czech Republic and Poland and the feeling that you can’t get any higher in the Czech Republic. So put on some sturdy boots, pack what you need and set off for the heights!

The Bear’s Footprints trail will take you below the highest peaks of the Beskids in Moravia. You will explore the base of Mount Lysá, or the valley of the upper stream of River Ostravice. A set of five marked trails will take you through the region; they are from 9 to 15 km long – Bear’s, Fox’s, Badger’s, Raven’s, and Hare’s. Local experts chose the most interesting places, beautiful views and refreshment stops along the individual trails. Walk along River Ostravice to its rapids, or to the Beskids foothills near Čeladná. You don’t have to worry about difficult climbs. These trails have a low elevation gain, many checkpoints along the way, and visible marks, and so any visitors can enjoy them: grandparents with grandchildren, parents with strollers, or weekend tourists.

The peak of Křemešník is in Vysočina, near the town of Pelhřimov. The local pilgrimage church and the adjacent Stations of the Cross have been standing there for over 200 years. The peak used to be a popular pilgrimage site thanks to a well with healing water. The spring flows through the argentiferous ores of a flooded historical silver mine and it is slightly radioactive. The water is still very pure and high-quality. The educational trail leads around the peak, and it is only 3 km long. However, it passes through beautiful nature sceneries of a dense forest, and you can take a sip of water from the well.

Palacký’s trail along River Kamenice in North Bohemia, between Liberec and the Bohemian Paradise. The trail, named after a distinguished Czech historian, will take you through the romantic valley of a mountain river, making its way through the rocks and creating unforgettable sceneries. It is also one of the oldest Czech marked trails, about 20 km long, established in 1912. If you are an experienced rafter, you can navigate River Kamenice in spring, when the snow melts, and see the trail from a different angle.

Visit a popular tourist destination in the Orlické Mountains – the nature reserve Zemská brána (meaning Earth’s Gate), which offers a remarkable environment of forests and rocks along the Divoká Orlice River. The 3-kilometre Zemská brána nature trail with 22 stops begins at a stone bridge from the beginning of the 20th century, right at the mouth of the valley. Follow the blue trail to get from one end of the Pašerácká lávka (Smugglers’ Footbridge) to the other, and then you can continue on further – to the site of the Lusthaus hunting lodge. Behind the bridge you can see the reinforced concrete walls of a cabin that was part of the country’s line of defence fortifications. Also noteworthy is Ledříčková Rock with a cave.

Camping 2000 is a popular cozy family campsite in the Czech Republic under Dutch management with a large swimming pool and water slide, close to the protected nature reserve of the mountain “de Jested” in North Bohemia.

In summer, the local cable-car takes tourists to the highest mountain of the Czech Republic, Sněžka (1,603m), from where they can hike through the beautiful countryside of the Krkonoše Mountains. In winter, Pec pod Sněžkou transforms into the largest ski resort in the Czech Republic.
