Valuable historical monuments can be seen even in the industrial city of Ostrava. Visit Silesian Ostrava Castle, which stands on a small hill above the confluence of the Ostravice and Lučina in the southern part of Silesian Ostrava. The castle was built by a Těšín prince from the Piastovec family as a borderland fortress against the Czech state in the second half of the 13th century. It was converted during the Renaissance and the entrance gate with a tower dating back to the 16th century has been preserved until this very day. The complex recently underwent extensive renovation and is regularly brought to life by a range of cultural events. The castle cellars are home to an aquarium with freshwater fish, a museum of witches and torture exhibition. You can look out over the centre of Ostrava from the lookout tower on the top floor. Children will especially appreciate a scary night in the castle.

The Theatre in Ostrava was founded in 1919, and is the unmistakeable centre of the cultural, intellectual, and social life of the population of northern Moravia and Silesia. It is the only theatre in Moravia that boasts four artistic ensembles: operatic, theatre, ballet, and musical-operetta ensembles, which perform regularly on two permanent stages.  

Coal, iron and steel changed the life of generations. There is no other Czech city that would reflect the technological development and industrial revolution the way Ostrava does. The industrial architecture with mining towers, furnaces and the skyline of the Vítkovice Ironworks is an unforgettable experience, seen both from the ground and the sky. The Moravian-Silesian technical trail is a virtual unmarked trail that is aimed at interlinking the industrial heritage of the north-eastern corner of the Czech Republic. Pursuing it, you will not only discover heritage from the 19th century industrial revolution, but also military and agricultural facilities from bygone times. Today, this National Cultural Monument is included in the list of the UNESCO List of Monuments.
