Street Art Painting

The recent street-art movement marked by artists like Banksy has placed graffiti on the map and grown to be an accepted creative outlet. In this camp, students will study graffiti as a base for making their own street-art paintings. Students will work on large-scale wood panels using acrylic and spray paint. 
  • Learn how to use spray paint, acrylic paint, and Exacto knives
  • Demonstrate how to stencil
  • Complete one large scale spray painting

Design Your Own Character

Students in this camp will explore how to design & render a character from the ground up. Everything will be covered in this camp! From ideation, sketching, inking to full rendering techniques, students will test their creativity and art making skills through the use of digital software. This camp is designed for the pure beginner digital artist who has an original character in their mind which is burning to get out! 
  • Learn how to use tools in SketchBook Pro
  • Demonstrate the fundamentals of character design and rendering. 
  • Complete an original character design. 
*No prior experience in digital art making is required to join this camp. Welcome to all!

Glow It Up: Blacklight Painting

Explore this new method of making paintings using acrylic black light paints and create a fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark artwork! Create imaginative and fantastical paintings exploring color theory and composition with a special effects finish.
  • Learn how to paint with acrylics and add special glow in the dark elements
  • Explore color theory, composition and blending techniques
  • Complete a painting with multiple effects of a day-time and night-time version

Pour Painting

Flow art, also known as acrylic pour painting, is a form of abstract art that uses acrylic paints with a variety of consistencies to create different effects. Layers of paint are poured into a cup, which then react with each other when combined to create organic free-flowing abstract compositions. Students will learn about color theory, different texture creating techniques and how to prepare a canvas for flow painting.
  • Learn techniques such as “the bloom effect,” ribboning, flip-cup and dirty pour 
  • Experiment with paint mediums to create different textures and paint reactions
  • Complete a series of acrylic flow paintings that demonstrates new techniques you have learned

Comic Book Illustration

Cartoonists endeavor to create innovative storylines featuring fun and interesting characters, inspiring today’s students to do the same. Students will demonstrate their creativity and imagination through original creations of characters and stories, learning illustration essentials from cover to panel designs.
  • Learn how to use colored pencils and illustration markers
  • Demonstrate how to create storyboards
  • Complete a ten-panel page comic

iPad Painting

Learn to paint on your iPad with this introductory camp to Procreate. Students will explore a series of illustrations designed to walk through the essentials of the program, Procreate. This class is designed for beginners to develop a foundational understanding of the program and discover unique skills to aid them in their future digital paintings!
  • Learn to use Procreate on an iPad
  • Explore methods of rendering characters, digital painting and even animation!
  • Create a small collection of work to get you started!
*Students are required to provide their own iPad (with Apple Pencil/Stylus) and Procreate App  in order to participate in this camp.

Chibi Characters

In this manga-inspired cartooning camp we will create our own “chibi” characters! These are super cute characters of people or animals that have been shrunken into funny, childlike creatures with big heads, big eyes and silly expressions!  
  • In chibi characters, emotion comes from the eyes! So we will focus our attention on creating eyes that tell their emotions and story
  • Learn to use illustration markers and watercolor paint
  • Create 4-5 characters inspired by your imagination, your family, your friends or your favorite tv-show

Learn to Sculpt

Explore different types of sculpture from freestanding to relief, and experiment with sculpting techniques such as additive and subtractive. Students will learn how to create two clay sculptures incorporating these essential foundations. 
  • Learn how to use clay and sculpting tools 
  • Demonstrate mastery in the additive and subtractive sculpture techniques
  • Complete two sculptures: one freestanding and one relief

Learn to Draw Animals

Let’s go wild! Learning to draw realistically is a crucial and fundamental skill for any aspiring artist. Students will study various animal anatomies to help them create accurate, proportionate, and to scale drawings of their favorite animals!
  • Learn how to draw with graphite and pastel
  • Demonstrate how to create proper proportions and realistic anatomy drawings
  • Complete one graphite and one pastel animal drawing

Illuminated Creations

This camp combines science, technology, engineering, art and math to create an artwork that lights up! Students will consider both the vessel and the internal elements for their creation using paper, markers, colored pencils and paint.
  • Design, draw and cut a vessel and animals for your illuminated creation
  • Source elements in nature such as grass, rocks and dirt to create a life-like habitat
  • Use lights and batteries to illuminate your creation for a day and night version

Dragon Creations

Explore wings, fangs, scales, horns, and more as students imagine their own dragon creations! Students will learn foundational sculpting techniques as they work with armature building and clay to create three-dimensional works of art. 
  • Learn how to build with clay and paint 
  • Demonstrate the use of wire armatures, and the slip and score method
  • Complete a dragon sculpture and watercolor resist painting

Kawaii Creations

Cute! Adorable! Lovable! Charming!… Kawaii! Kawaii is the culture of cuteness in Japan and in this camp we will be making all things cute! To make our digital Kawaii characters we will look at inspiration from popular Japanese cartoons while learning how to create a silhouette, distinct facial features and texture for our original characters.
  • We will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to create our characters
  • Learn how to draw proper proportions to ensure the kawaii-style
  • Create 4-5 characters inspired by food, animals and objects
*No prior experience in digital art making is required to join this camp. Welcome to all!

Aerial Creations

Design a floating piece of art that moves with the flow of air and changes its view with every angle. Students will learn about artist Alexander Calder and how he redefined the space and form in his floating mobile sculptures. Students will draw, cut, paint and combine their 2-dimensional artworks to create a floating 3-dimensional artwork. 
  • Draw and paint a series of animals, planets or objects for your mobile
  • Learn to combine them at different lengths to create an interesting balance of forms
  • Hang your completed mobile artworks and watch how they change as you move around the sculpture

Cartooning: Superhero Edition

Aspiring cartoonists will make their own superhero illustration in this fun camp that will combine illustration and character development.. We will focus specifically on superhero comics from DC and Marvel for inspiration.
  • Learn how to draw a cartoon illustration
  • Develop a unique superhero character from your imagination or choose your favorite to recreate
  • Learn to render with microns and illustration markers

Learn to Paint: Sweet Treats

Learn the most essential elements of painting through the foundations of acrylic painting. Students will explore how to use this painting medium to create a painting with an interesting composition and use of color.
  • Learn how to use acrylic paint 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of composition, color mixing, and value 
  • Complete an acrylic painting of your favorite sweet treat

Fashion Illustration

Bring your runway visions to life in this fashion drawing class. Students will learn how to draw a fashion figure with appropriate proportions and in various fashion poses. We will also focus on creating a series of sketches that represents a full fashion line, complete with clothing, shoes and accessories that mimics the textures and materials of the style. 
  • Learn how to create a fashion figure drawing called a “croquis.”
  • Draw with a variety of media to bring your style to life including pencil, marker and watercolor
  • Complete a series of fashion drawings that represents your unique style

Design Your Own Character

One Artwork a Day

This art making adventure is the perfect way for young artists to explore different paths within the fine arts. Over the course of a week, you will learn important fundamentals about drawing, sculpting, and painting. Every camper will create one new piece of art for each day of camp attended. 
  • Learn more about where your talent shines brightest. 
  • Breakdown barriers between traditional forms of studio art.  
  • Bring home a mini-project for each day of camp.

Students will learn the foundations of drawing and become familiar with the graphite medium. Students will learn how to render the human eye, nose, and mouth naturalistically. 
  • Learn how to use graphite pencils, blending stumps and kneaded erasers
  • Demonstrate how to draw realistic features in correct proportions
  • Complete one portrait drawing
