UN in Yemen says death toll in Tuesday’s strike is now 119

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — A senior U.N. official in Yemen says the death toll from an airstrike this week by the Saudi-led coalition on a market north of the capital, Sanaa, has nearly doubled, rising to 119.

Meritxell Relano, UNICEF’s deputy representative in Yemen, told The Associated Press on Thursday that there are 22 children among the dead. The airstrike on Tuesday in the town of Mastaba in Hajja province, northwest of Sanaa, also wounded 47 people.

The area is controlled by the Shiite rebels known as Houthis.

The rebel-controlled state news agency, SABA, said on Tuesday that 65 people were killed and 55 wounded in the attack, the latest in a series of similar bombings by the coalition that have killed hundreds of civilians.
